We expect many of you will be flying, and this is the closest major airport to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor! The Bangor International Airport is about 1 hour from the island.

We recommend getting a rental car! It is the most flexible way to travel to Bar Harbor and explore the National Park. You can find the airport's ground transportation page here.

If you don't want to rent a car, there is a limited shuttle service listed below (Downeast Transportation).

This is a limited shuttle service from Bangor to Bar Harbor.

NOTE: This service is only available on weekdays and leaves the airport at 1:45 pm ET.

Useful if you choose not to rent a car, or are looking for a public transportation option to explore the park.

The fare-free Island Explorer features bus routes linking hotels, inns, and campgrounds with destinations in Acadia National Park and neighboring village centers. There is a stop right outside the Explore Acadia Cottages (you must flag down the driver)!
